"The impact of
ancient Chinese astronomy today" by Jean-Marc Bonnet-Bidaud
今天中国古代天文学的影响 by 让-马克·博奈-比多
China has the longest tradition of astronomical observations in the
world. In this talk, I will present the diverse contributions of
ancient Chinese astronomers that are still relevant to modern science
(supernovae, comets) as well as remarkable results obtained in China by
pre-scientific methods (calendars, charts). I will compare to the
European tradition and underline the difference
of scientific approaches. While Europe has chosen theory and unity,
China has favoured empirism and duality. Both methods are still
pertinent to modern science, giving therefore to China very good basis
to contribute to future science.
